road trip… day 5

August 7th….

Drive from San Antonio to Dallas/ Fort Worth….

A day of good eats….

…. stopping at a hipster burger place in Austin. Very yum.

(I was a complete stress case about taking our trailer into a tight urban area and we won’t even talk about the mild panic attacks I was having about parking our monster…. but thankfully I am married to a very calm and collected man and also I WAS NOT DRIVING. So in the end it ended up being a very fun day with great stops…. and the lesson taught and that I am still learning………….. CHILL! )

Ended the day watching the sunset from the comfort of our little towable house, eating pizza and then lights out.

Tomorrow…. Dallas/ Fort Worth fun!

road trip… day 4

August 6th….

We woke up rested and ready for a day exploring San Antonio. We realized pretty quickly that we were in for a crash course on how hot and humid Texas can be. Wowza!

Heat and all, we still had an incredible day in San Antonio and it was especially nice to have a whole day to not have to be in the car for hours on end. We really enjoyed getting to stretch our legs.

Enjoying the playground at our RV “resort”…

And then a little drive to see THE Alamo.

Not exactly what I was envisioning, but still very cool.  Also it is always sobering to walk into a place where a battle was fought and lives were lost.

And then a little Texas BBQ lunch on the River Walk.

After lunch we took a boat tour of the river…. fun hearing interesting facts about the area, architecture and history of San Antonio.

After our tour we decided that we all were pretty beat and the days of driving prior to this day were catching up with us, so we went back to our “camp” (it was nothing like a campground) and swam, took naps, the girls painted finger nails and we ordered Pei Wei to-go for dinner.  Resting up for another day of adventures to come!

road trip… day 3

Good morning Carlsbad, New Mexico….

Micah made some new friends…

Here he is so proud of his big boy car seat (our late night purchase the night before).

IMG_0419

We headed back to Carlsbad Caverns to see…. well…. the caverns.

The three older kids earned their Junior Ranger badges to add to their growing collections.

No pictures can do this created natural wonder justice! What  an incredible place. Surreal, really. It is so quiet, so calm,  slightly chilly and absolutely breath taking. We were all wowed!

he was pretty wiped out… still kinda weak from his carsickness episode the day before. Sad smile

Pushpops and Ices always make for smiling kiddos.

This was another incredibly long day, mainly because we enjoyed ourselves and took our time at Carlsbad Caverns in the morning and we lost an hour with the time change. We had an (interesting…. ok gross…. actually burned-in-my-mind disgusting) experience at a small Texas town Sonic and finally pulled into a beautiful San Antonio campground well after midnight.  The kids were starting to get the hang of the whole long drive thing and were handling the long hours like pros!

Tomorrow…. exploring San Antonio and no driving (well at least farWinking smile)
