Trick or Treat (part 2).....

So we survived Halloween... Our oldest child is slowly coming down off the sugar high and our youngest, although a little afraid of some people's costumes, seems to be overall unscathed by the festivities. Our evening began by going out to dinner with my parents and then onto our church's big festival. There were a ton of people there! We had a great time though. They had a few different types of petting zoos (Bekah pet a snake!), lots of games, face painting, a magician, tons of candy and several other fun activities. Rebekah loved getting to see a few of her friends dressed up. Princesses and Dora seemed to be the big hit for 3 year old girls this year. Bekah actually chose to wear her Belle costume ( I promise I had nothing to do with it ;) ) and Anna went as a lady bug. The cutest part of her costume was the two pig tails in her hair. So fun!!!! After about an hour or so at church we came back to my parents house and did a little trick or treating. (When I say little, I mean 2 houses)And now..... we are finally home and the house is quiet. What a day!!! To quote Bekah.... " That sure was a great day we had, huh mommy!?" It was a great day.... and we have about a years supply of candy to remember it by. Not to mention A LOT of great pictures :)

Pretty girls...

This girl is not scared of ANYTHING!

Good old fashioned bean bag toss!

She was so excited to be in a familiar place!!!

Trick or Treat (part 1)....

Well the first part of our Hallows Eve/ Halloween (or for my Lutheran friends and family: Reformation Day) is off to a great start! This morning Bekah went to preschool. All the kids were dressed up in costumes and they had a parade around the school and made stops to get special treats at different stations. I cannot convey to you what a madhouse it was. But none-the-less it was very cute.

Well, thanks to Grandpa and Grandma along with a few other people our dress-up box is pretty much stocked with any Disney princess costume you can imagine and so, even though mommy recently made a "Dorothy" costume, Bekah chose to be Minnie Mouse (For the 2nd year in a row). This has been her absolute favorite dress since she got it on her 2nd birthday. I don't care how many other frilly princess dresses she has, Minnie Mouse is by far her 1st choice. (we will see what she wants to be tonight. I am pulling for Belle:))

So when I picked Minnie Mouse up from school she came home with a brand NEW Halloween tote bag filled with not only candy but other goodies as well (ie: coloring book, crayons, paddle ball set!). I was shocked!!!!! Not only have we not even gotten to lunch yet and already she has double the candy any child should recieve, but she is coming home with probably the same amount of toys some kids get for Christmas! It is crazy what kids get these days.... I am thinking she may have to donate some of her candy to very "needy" trick or treaters that come to our door tonight;).
Speaking of tonight...... we are going to the big "Harvest Party" at our church and then we are doing a little trick or treating in our neighborhood before calling it a night and saying good bye to Halloween until next year;)
Well, here are some pictures of Bekah at school. I will have pictures of both the girls tonight in their costumes:)

p.s. Another fun thing...... Josh wore the "Tin Man" costume to work today and won a gift certificate to Mimi's!!!!! YIPEE!!!!!

In her class...

special little treats......

Today Bekah and I made Halloween cookies. She adores helping out in the kitchen and gets even MORE excited when sprinkles are involved. I do have to mention that I felt slightly guilty as we made our goodies, because today at MOPS we had a nutritionist speak on healthy eating. I am pretty sure sugar cookies were not on the list of healthy snacks. :( However, what would growing up be like without a few sprinkles and just a little frosting?:) I know, I know...... I am such a rebel. Anyways here are a few pics of my little baker...

Putting the sprinkles on...... Rebekah's delicious creations!

And of course the taste test...

Another little treat in my day is that yesterday Anna started clapping. She is so proud of herself when we all stand around her and say "YAY!!!!" And did I mention she is starting to walk. Ya... she is gifted ;).

"YAY FOR ME!!!!"

Bursting with pride.......

Can you...... FONDUE?

So thanks to my wonderful Aunt, Josh and I were able to enjoy an AMAZING dining experience. We don't normally take pictures when we eat out, however we just thought that we should document #1. A rare night out by ourselves and #2. Our first experience with FONDUE. We went to the new Melting Pot on Birch St. in Brea and had a marvelous time. Four courses of absolute perfection!!!!! If you like, cheese, chocolate and dipping sauces this is the place for you. We also tried a few martinis one of which was a "Carmel apple-tini." This drink should be illegal, because it tasted nothing like alcohol. It was very yummy, to say the least. And if the food and beverages were not enough to make it a wonderful evening you can add the fact that Josh and I got to spend 2 and 1/2 hours.... ALL BY OURSELVES! ( Did I mention, my Aunt watched the kids too..... SHE'S AMAZING!) Our lives seem so busy between the kids, Josh's job, and just every day life that we don't always get enough time for "US". So, tonight was a wonderful refresher for us and we left very FULL, happy and little more in love:). So thanks Aunt Becky we owe you one!
Me with my "CARMEL-APPLE-TINI" (yes!!! that is dripping carmel around the edge of the glass!)
The last course............. MY FAVORITE!!!
US......

our trip down the yellow brick road...

We had a great time the costume party last night! I must give a thumbs up to those who planned it! I was so impressed with people's creativity when it came to their costumes. There were some really funny ones and a few people did little skits while in character. Pretty funny!:)
As far as our costumes, all went pretty well. I didn't hit any obstacles in making anything and I think we pulled it off. Bekah has NEVER seen the Wizard of OZ and so I showed her pictures of Dorothy online. She could have cared less about the dress as long as she got to wear the ruby slippers:). Anytime people would ask her who she was she would run up to me and ask me "What am I called, again?" :) She had no problem however remembering her dog's name. She said it over and over..... I would not be surprised if she starts calling Abby "Toto". Little miss Anna was an Adorable Lion and I must say was so good all night. She was full of smiles and even showed off by taking a couple of steps at the party.(10 months and walking....... not sure how I feel about that one.) Josh and I are not usually ones to get into dressing up in costume but we will admit we enjoyed it, this time. Josh's face looked a little more "Blue Man Group" than "tin man" but I think he got the idea across and I actually enjoyed being a scarecrow for a night. So anyways.... here are the pictures of us all in our "OZ" attire...

Little miss Dorothy and her dog Toto ;) (Pretty darn cute.... If I do say so myself)

All of us at the party...

Me and my girls. (The tin man is taking the picture)
Roar!... My little doll in her lion wear....(She wiped the nose and wiskers off her face)

And one more picture of us all..... ( looks better in the light.)

Super Sized Play Day..... and then some

WOW!!!!!! What a day! We had our friends over today for a "big party" as Bekah would call it. Actually it was just a Super sized play day. My friends Katie and Riva came over with their kids plus some and so our grand total was 8 kids under 5!!!!!!Yep it was a little crazy at moments, to say the least, but overall a fun day for everyone! I'll tell ya, it is such a blessing to have other moms to get together with. It is so nice to laugh, to chat about everything from theology to coupon clipping, eat yummy snacks and all while your kids are playing contently (well at least some of the time;) ).I am speaking the truth when I say, play days are more for moms than the kids... ya, I said it! Anyways thanks gals for a WONDERFUL day! You help me keep my sanity! Here's to good times, lots of laughs, great conversation and MANY more play days!

Busy Preschoolers........

Creatively Speaking......

So we have recently gotten involved in an adult fellowship group at our church.(It is about time as we have been there almost 4 years now!)We are really enjoying it and are wishing we had done so sooner. Anyways, they are having a costume party this Saturday and it is required that the entire family dress up! My first reaction is to be somewhat of a scrooge and just show up as myself, however I don't want to establish a reputation for being to "cool" to participate. So I decided I might as well just go with the flow. However, I had two problems...... #1 What could we as a FAMILY be? and #2 How do I get four costumes and not break the bank.Sooooo..... I have given it some thought and I think I have decided what we will all be (Did I mention the overall party them is "As seen on TV"). And today with only 3 days until the party, I went bargain costume shopping and between the 99 Cent store, SAVERS and Wal-Mart I found I think what will be a pretty cute themed ensemble. I am not going to tell you..... I will let you guess. And here is a picture to give you a clue. Hopefully I can pull it off...... :)

A Day Inside & So Much to be Thankful For...

I am sure you all know about the fires devastating several areas in southern California. Well the air has been thick with a smokey haze as a result, so much so it burns your lungs and throat with each breath. And so I decided, the girls and I would stay locked up in the house today. I usually take my Mondays and designate them as "Laundry Day" anyway. This is the day where my my main goal is getting rid of the mountain of laundry our family of four seems to make every week. So today we did a lot of laundry, colored, watched Jungle Book (thanks Grandpa!) and both girls took a VERY GOOD 3 hour nap in the afternoon (Score for me)!! As all seemed pretty peaceful in my little house it hit me... right now there are people who have been forced out of there homes, not sure if they will ever return. There are people who have already seen there houses, belongings and memories burn to the ground. People have been hurt and lives have been forever changed. Wow!.................... So as I go on with my "little" routines of life and even at times get frustrated with the day-to-day chores and responsibilities of being a mom/homemaker I must remind myself how much I have to be thankful for. My house is not in any present danger, my family is well and safe and I know that this is not the case for some people tonight. I truly grieve for these people and so my thoughts, sympathy and prayers are with all those who are being affected by the fires. God be with you...

Pumpkin Patch Ponderings...

I am a picture taking addict and pretty much anywhere I go my camera is not far behind. In every family outing I have future scrapbook pages in mind and so I am always on the watch for perfect photo ops. So after meticulously coordinating fabulously fall outfits and listening to my 3 year old scream as I brushed the massive amount of tangles out of her hair, we ventured out of the house and on to our local pumpkin patch. Now I am sure there are pumpkin patches across the country and even in other parts of California that do the darling name of "pumpkin patch" justice. However, the pumpkin patches we have here in the Los Angeles/ Orange County area should be called "parking lot carnivals with some pumpkins scattered around" ( I know it would be hard to make a sign that long, but at least it would be more accurate. ) So we get to the "patch" and there are literally more bounce houses than pumpkins (no joke). I have in MY mind cute FALL pictures (even though it feels like summer outside), however Rebekah (3 years old) has nothing but bounce house mania on her mind. Grandpa and Grandma Huckabone came along and treated Bekah to several bouncing experiences. She had no clue that with the money spent to go in each bounce house we could have probably purchased a bounce house of our very own or at the very least rented one for the day. She had a fabulous time! However, when it was time for Bekah to stop jumping and mommy's time for family picture taking she had firmly decided that she WOULD NOT/ COULD NOT take pictures and ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to smile !!!!!!!! We made several attempts to distract her and lighten her mood, but she had 100% decided to punish us for curbing her bouncing spree. So after all of that we left the patch with a few tears and a near tantrum and only a few good pictures. So the lesson I learned: next time I will ask myself... Are the pictures really worth it?
(you be the judge)

let us begin...

Well I have been inspired by my dear friend, Riva to start a blog. So I guess you could call me a copy-cat:). Anyways... I love looking at friend's blogs and seeing little glimpses into their lives. It is amazing that because of modern technology, distance and lack of time are no longer obstacles in keeping contact with loved ones. With the click of a button you can maintain friendships, give updates and share thoughts and memories with those you love. So all that being said... I am now jumping on the blog-bandwagon and looking forward to not only sharing with all of you but also getting your feedback. Here's to happy blogging!:)
