Quicker than you can say......

FLEXIBILITY!!!!

We have been planning a trip to Big Bear,CA with our dear friends the Reeves for a month or so now. We found a little cabin just big enough for all of us to fit and all the necessary preparations were made. If you know me, you know I am always one to come prepared. (I pack well ;) )

Around 2:00 on Thursday we arrived in Big Bear ready for a couple days of relaxing and good times with friends.

Our weekend got off to a great start! We were surprised to see small patches of snow on the mountain. Especially since it was like 87* back home.

On Friday morning we got ready to go out to a Big Bear style breakfast! :)

Of course the girls had to have matching outfits. (It's my thing ;))

Well this is where the "flexibility" part comes in....

On Friday afternoon Anna was hit by a bug of some sort. After thoroughly loosing her "BIG BEAR style breakfast" (several times) we all felt it was in the best interest of everyone to head back home. :(

Slightly disappointed and frustrated we cut our trip to the mountains short, packed up our stuff and headed home.

DSC_5850 After telling Rebekah we would be leaving early she was slightly distraught, but quick to recover once Jamba Juice and a trip to the park were promised. ;)

Well..... this is what happens with kids I guess. So often our schedule and plans are tossed out the window to accommodate the apples of our eyes. :)

It seemed like our trip was too short but we left already with discussion of plans for another mini-vacation with the Reeves.

I guess it is times like this that I can allow the Lord to teach me to release control and learn (at least) how to be just a tad bit flexible. :)

I don't like this lesson. ;)

Make way for the........ Duck?

This morning we had somewhat of a random encounter with nature. While I am sure there are some of you who regularly have wild life roaming through your yards; we here in southern California suburbia rarely see anything besides crows, pigeons and the occasional stray dog or cat. :) Believe me the sight of a squirrel, chipmunk, possum or even lizard feels like a wild safari for us.

So needless to say, when we walked out of our door this morning and saw a "mommy duck" nestled in our yard we were quite excited!

 DSC_5735

This is some what of an ironic sighting as just yesterday the girls and I were reading one of our FAVORITE books Make Way For Ducklings by Robert McCloskey.  To add another ironic element to our story, today at MOPS the topic was all about nature and how God has given us the beauty of His creation to not only enjoy but also to learn from, particularly animals. Our speaker pointed out GREAT references in scripture where animals are used as illustrations of faith, wisdom, awareness and courage.

DSC_5736

Well...... we left for our MOPS morning and didn't arrive home until later this afternoon. But when we pulled up in our driveway there was "Mrs. Mallard" waiting for us, as though she had been watching the house for us in our absence.  I am not sure why she has chosen our house as a place of refuge and not being a bird person myself I am hoping that she is well and not here because of an injury. My mind has been busy with thoughts of reasons for her being here. Perhaps she has lost her mate or is taking a break from her mate. She may be waiting for her flock to catch up as she is just ahead of the rest. Is it true that when ducks molt they cannot fly? Well if that is true, there is another possible reason.  My final reason (which I think is the best) is......there could be the possibility of a nest  and maybe eggs. We aren't sure.....

So I am wondering if we will soon be saying "Make way for the DUCKLINGS"...... wouldn't that be exciting? We shall see!

So as inspired by our speaker this morning I am looking for ways in which nature can send us to scripture. I didn't find any "duck" references in the Bible but there were plenty of "bird" references. (all in the same family right?)

Genesis 1:21
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Ezekiel 17:23
On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches.

Matthew 6:26
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Familiar Faces......

I truly can say that Josh and I have been blessed with great friends. One of our greatest joys and stress releases is hanging out with "familiar faces". Nothing beats a BBQ in the backyard or a game night with friends.

This weekend was special because we enjoyed getting together with dear friends Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I am so BUMMED I did not get a picture Friday night, but we had the WONDERFUL privilege of having the Ito family over. Jeremy is a childhood friend to both Josh and I from our "Trinity days". It was so nice to get a chance to hang out, reminisce and also meet his beautiful wife and daughter. In addition to the Itos the Rogers (both friends from when we were wee sprouts), my sister Donna (I have known her for a while too...) and her" other half" Philip Dejong (another wonderful childhood friend) all joined us for a delightful BBQ and games! :)

It was such a fun time and it is so nice to know people who I consider to be faithful, true and loyal friends......

On Saturday the girls and got to go to the first DSC_5730 bridal shower for our friend Jen.

Jen has been a wonderful friend since high school and I am thrilled for her as she enters this next phase of life.

My girls love any kind of  party and Bekah was not shy about polishing off a sizable piece of chocolate cake.;)

 DSC_5725

Jen is a true servant, has a tender heart and a loving disposition. She will be a fabulous wife and companion for her husband- to- be Aaron! We wish them all of life's best and look forward to the FAST approaching BIG wedding day! :)  DSC_5726

Which brings us to the 3rd and final get together of this weekend..... (another photo op... missed) :(

Last night we had another BBQ with Jen and her fiance Aaron, and the Rogers family. (We like having them around; )  )It was another fantiastic evening of laughing, chatting and good eats.

All of this said.... I just have to mention that we are very thankful for the wonderful friendships we have in our life. Both Josh and I would say that having good friends is a huge priority for us and we can say with gratitude, the Lord has greatly blessed us with life long friends that we cherish whole-heartedly.

So here's to friends...... old and new. :)

Shall We Dance.....

Today Bekah started Ballet/Tap class. She took a class last year and has not stopped talking about it since. Every time we pass the community center she reminds me..... "that is where my ballet class is, right mommy?....... You don't take me there anymore..." So seeing as this child is so utterly deprived, we signed up again.

This morning I realized that......... hmmmmm....... last year she had just turned 3 when we started lessons and now she is four....... she has probably grown...... So we went shopping for ballet attire.  DSC_5680

I discovered that it was a lot easier to outfit her last year. At the sweet age of 3 she was just happy with anything with frills. Well, along with the growth of her shoe size and clothing size her "opinion size" has also had some development.

We HAD to have the pink shoes and leotard..... let's just say it took us a while to track it down. :) DSC_5695

Aren't those such cute little feet?

Taking the lesson very seriously......

hmmmmm.....

I wish she listened as well for me......

She loves interacting with other kids....:)

Rebekah was so proud of herself after each part of the lesson. She was absolutely beaming and  loving every minute of it.

Anna was biting at the bit to dance. I was trying to restrain her but she did make it out on the dance floor at one point. Just another year or two, missy.

Look at this picture.....

Anna looking up at her sister with affection and admiration. She so wanted to be one of the big girls. :)

An aspiring "twinkle-toes"...

One of the things the teacher talked about was how Ballet teaches discipline and respect! Hey! I love that concept! ;)

DSC_5698

At the end of each lesson the girls line up and curtsy for the teacher. She then in turn curtsies and gives them sticker. The look that Bekah had on her face was the same look she gives the princesses at Disneyland. :)

(I think she is awestruck)

It was record breaking HOT in southern California today! Here was our solution....

(The water was a little cold for Anna...)

(Her hesitance only lasted for a moment.....)

"What are you talking about Anna!? The water is FINE!"

(Rebekah loves the water at any temperature!)

DSC_5643

"Ok.... I'll try it one more time. Hey that hot water Grandpa put in really helped!"

(Anna was in the water and by the end of the evening completely soaked and even shivering...

we had to drag her kicking and screaming out of the water! :)

"Would you like a spot of tea?"

Hope you are all stayin cool! :)

Happy List...

DSC_5549

With two girls in the house we are not short on reasons to be HAPPY. Giggles, wiggles, laughs and squeals are all part of the daily soundtrack in our house.

( Along with the occasional "not-so-happy" sounds ;) )

DSC_5543 These are some of the things that made me/ us HAPPY today....

1.) Dollar bin letters that add a little extra "cuteness" to my girls room decor. :)

DSC_5561

DSC_5565

2.) We found out that clothes-pins can provide at least an hour's worth of entertainment! :)

Bekah loves being silly. She has a great sense of humor! :) Hey I think that is #3 on my list! A little girl who loves to not only BE happy but loves to make other people happy!

Here she is putting them in my hair....

Here is the final product. What do you think? Should I start a trend? ;)

DSC_5592

"Hey Anna....let me put a clothes pin on your finger."

 DSC_5587

4.) One of my greatest reasons to be happy... HAPPY KIDS! :)

5.) Today  my mom (the QUEEN of bargain shopping) gave the girls princess "jammies". They were pleased and full of smiles. So my reason to be happy.... grandparents that are involved with and LOVE my kids! :)

#6 Per my WONDERFUL husband's suggestion we had a "THE-OFFICE-IS-BACK-PARTY" and had a celebratory dinner of sushi. We fed the girls and got them to bed early and then we ordered out! So my 6th reason for happiness this evening..... A HUSBAND WHO KNOWS MY TASTE BUDDS! :) Gotta love sushi!

Moments in the life of a MONKEY!

DSC_5522

I have learned that nothing is fully "baby proofed"  with Miss Anna in the house. She will find a way to climb out of, open up, go around, get under, and pull apart anything that may seem to be forbidding to other children of her age. And while she is notorious for her "Houdini" moves, I have to say the mess I found her getting into was all my fault. I was working on some MOPS stuff today and in order to distract Bekah I hastily got out the crayons. On a normal day I would scan the crayon can for any stray markers that may have found their way in there. I was not thinking and when I am NOT thinking, of course Anna will find a way to take advantage of my distraction.

DSC_5523

A glorious combination of purple, blue, and red marker made for a bruise-like appearance on her hands, face and even legs. :) So just in case marker by itself was not incentive enough for a bath, how about the fear that some one may mistake my child's art work for the aftermath of an abusive rage.  Good choice in color Anna!;)

DSC_5524

This is Anna's guilty look......

DSC_5525

And this is Anna's...... "Don't TRY and wash my hands with that cold towel again, because I am on the verge of getting mad" look.

DSC_5527

What can I say. Sometimes I think the name "Anna Banana" is all too fitting of this little monkey. Always on the go, always into things and always ADORABLE doing it. :)

DSC_5530

She is in a fun stage and is daily starting to act more and more like a "big girl."

This is one of those moments where I really do think...... " I CAN'T imagine my life without her!"

......................................................................................................

I would like to dedicate today's post to my Grandpa Bill.

Today would have been his 77th birthday. My heart aches that he never got to meet my girls. He passed away just 8 weeks before Rebekah was born. I KNOW  he would have adored them both. Grandpa was a humble man, whose faith, kindness and integrity made him truly one of the GREATEST men I have EVER known. He is still dearly loved and whole heartedly missed.

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Saturday at the Park:

It was a chilly spring day here in So Cal.But still a wonderful day for the "great outdoors."

We met some friends from our Sunday school class at the park this afternoon. The daddies played a rousing game of "disc golf" and then the mommies and kids came and joined them for a dinner picnic.:)

Anna and her stroller buddy Lauren: They are a week apart in age and it has been so nice to be able to compare notes with Lauren's mom.....
It is somewhat of a relief to know that "JIBBERISH- EEZE" is not just a language our 16 month old speaks ;).
