A true San Francisco treat!

(Warning: You may want to grab a cup of coffee or some sort of caffeinated product before reading this…… this post is just a tad lengthy. Sorry =) )

We just got back from 4 days in San Francisco. Josh had a conference there and since the girls and I  kind of like him we decided to tag along (again).

While Josh was in his conference the girls and I had no trouble finding wonderful ways to keep ourselves busy. San Francisco is a city overflowing with history and culture and it was so fun to experience some of that with our girls.

Friday the girls and I started our day by going to the California Academy of Sciences. INCREDIBLE does not even begin to describe this place. It just recently reopened and was well worth the somewhat pricey admission.

DSC_0336 Bekah and her Dinosaur impression.

DSC_0339 There is an entire exhibit on global warming and well….treating our environment with kindness. =)

They had these slips of paper that you are supposed to write what you can do to help the environment. Other suggestions were…..

“recycle” , “start a compost pile”, “choose organic” …… other suggestions were also there, some not so appropriate. Anyways when I asked Bekah what she wanted to write she began to write her name and then “LOVE” ( she is getting really good at writing) and then asked “Mommy how do you write PEOPLE?” I told her. She ended up writing PEEPLE so in the end she wrote “REBEKAH ”with the words  “LOVE PEEPLE” below. I thought it was a great suggestion!

DSC_0346 In addition to a huge aquarium, penguins, crocodiles and African exhibit they also had a huge rainforest with thousands of butterflies and the girls favorite part was the toddler play room. It had a ship to crawl through and a tree house. HOURS of FUN!

After our outing and some aimless driving through the city (THANK GOD FOR GPS!) we went back to the hotel and the girls and I rented a movie and waited  for Daddy to get back. ( Just in case you wondered what movie it was Beverley Hills Chihuahua.) Yep….

DSC_0372 Saturday we had another morning with daddy in conference so we ventured out to the most amazing farmer’s market (here's the link) I have ever been to. There were so many booths there with beautiful organic produce, cheeses and goods. The girls and I enjoyed a few treats ( including freshly turned butter.) Then we had time to just sit and run. ( I sat, the girls ran.)

With still a few hours to kill before we had daddy back with us we went back over to Golden Gate Park and found a little spot called the Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden. We pulled over and spent almost 2 hours just getting muddy and hiking through trails and once again sitting and running. :)

DSC_0421 (Just in case any of you are completely appalled by thinking that I let my kids simply pluck and pick the flowers, I did not. They had strict orders to only pick up flowers already off the plants. So MY kids were not destroying the garden as it may look. Some other kids may have been doing that though, as there were a lot of plucked flowers on the ground. My children just came and cleaned up their left-overs. :) )

My little hikers….

DSC_0443 Once we had Josh (aka Daddy) back with us we headed over to Fisherman’s Wharf, where we quickly ate yummy seafood and lots of it.  Our girls both adore crab! Such expensive taste.

DSC_0449 Sunday before we left for home we still had a couple things to check off our San Francisco sight-seeing list…… of course we had to take a ride on a cable car!

DSC_0461 Then Josh took us to a little community called Tiburon. Such a beautiful town on the water. We ate lunch at a cute cafe, took a little walk along the water and then headed back towards home.

While we were glad to get back to our beds last night, we were sad to see our little getaway come to an end.

  1. You all looked like you had a really great time. You are braver than I am. I don't know that I would have been too comfortable driving around the city on my own. Too many one ways! :)

  2. Looks like a fun trip! I like visiting SF too - especially watching the seals and getting Ghirardelli chocolate :-)

  3. What a fun trip! I've been wanting to go back to S.F. without the kids but it looks like just as much fun with them. Cute pictures!

  4. Great photos as usual!

I am glad you enjoyed your time and thank goodness for GPS to get you around that crazy town!

  5. Gosh Em, what awesome pictures... I think you have yet another calling! Looks like you guys had a great time. I wish my husband HAD to go to conferences so we could tag along! :)
