Funny Faces…

I love your funny face
Your sunny, funny face
Though you're a cutie with more than beauty
You've got a lot of personality for me
You fill the air with smiles
For miles and miles and miles
Though you're no Mona Lisa
For world's I'd not replace

Your sunny, funny face
I love your funny face
Your sunny, funny face

You're not exotic but so hypnotic
You're much, too much
If you can cook the way you look
I'd swim the ocean wide
Just to have you by my side
Though you're no Queen of Sheba
For world's I'd not replace
Your sunny, funny face

(Fred Astaire: Funny Face Lyrics Songwriters: George and Ira Gershwin)

Faces only a mother could love? Maybe. But they are my little funny faces and boy do they make me smile. Smile

Do you wear your food?

Micah likes to….

Smearing your food all over your face, clothes, chair and hair must make it taste better….. right?

(Here he is mad that I am not getting him out…. and instead taking pictures.)

“No pictures MOMMY!”

“ok….…. I guess…it’s kind of funny…”

(No worries… he is pretty much always a happy guy.)

“Happy eating folks!”- Micah

they keep me smiling….

Today was no different than any other day in our house….

My girls are CONSTANT chatter boxes! Let me repeat….. CONSTANT…… wait…… did you get that?…….. CONSTANT…… chatter boxes….. there is even talking in their sleep!  They daily utter things that make us smile, smirk, laugh and giggle…. Here are a few things that came out of their mouths today….. thought I would share. Smile

-Rebekah informed me today as we were driving…”Mommy, when I am done with high school and college I want to have a car just like ours!”

to which I replied “A mini-van?!?” (slightly shocked and very amused)

she quickly responded, very decidedly….. “Yes!! and you know what color? YELLOW! With black stripes and the letters T-A-X-I (she spelt it out) on the side!”

“ That spells taxi, Bekah!Smile” (I said with a laugh)

“I know!!! That’s the kind of car I want!”

“More power to ya, my dear!”Winking smile

(I am glad she sets her sights high Winking smile)

- Anna ….we were watching a movie as a reward for earning a “flower” on their chart. And there was a “bad guy” or “villain” and Anna kept saying…..

“WOW! Jesus really needs to talk to that guy, doesn’t He,mommy? WOW! Jesus really needs to talk to the guy, doesn’t He Bekah? That man really neeeeeeeeds Jesus!!!”

The fact that it was an animated movie didn’t seem to matter…… THAT man neeeeeeeeded JESUS!

(Anna is on a mission to bring the Gospel to the cartoons of the world!)

- We began reading our “getting ready for Christmas” books today. We have a whole line up of classics and special books on the lesson plans for the next days leading up to the 25th! In addition to planned reading I have a stack of Christmas books that I set on the coffee table for them just to read when they want. So today we were reading “The Twelve Days of Christmas”… after reading through the first several gifts…you know?.. “partridge in a pear tree”,”6 geese-a-laying”, “two turtle doves”, “seven swans-a-swimming”

And Bekah says with her Bekah humor….. “boy! this guy keeps giving his wife a lot of birds! (cue rolling of the eyes) I would be like….ummmmm…… what am I supposed to do with all these birds!!!!ummmmm……..ya…….” We all rolled with laughter. She is so my kid! Slightly cynical, pretty practical, and always up for a joke! I told her I would have thought the same thing if somebody gave me a bunch of birds…..We kept reading and got to the end of the book and she said…..

“ummmm…… and then he gives her PEOPLE!?!?!WHAT!!!!?????” (like the “maids-a-milking” and “drummers-drumming”)

“This guy does NOT know how to give very good presents! How do you give someone a PERSON for a present!?! You can’t wrap that!”

I was dying!!!!! Tears streaming down my face! Such a good laugh with my girls. Smile

(so just for future reference….. if you are ever in the market to get Bekah a gift…. “swans-a-swimming”and “lords-a-leaping” aren’t high on her want list!)Winking smile

I’m dreaming of a……… PINK Christmas?

We did something new this year. The girls got trees of their own to decorate for the tops of their desks in their room. And since color coordination is a “must” (right?) we flocked our trees with pink.

To start with…. we needed two trees…. thank you 99 cent store!

After stringing a string of white lights on the trees and then taping each bulb…. (this was the most time consuming part of the whole project)….we then needed….

….. a little pink snow….. or spray paint…… (thank you Daddy!)

Now to decorate…

Ornaments also from the 99cent store.

Decorating is SERIOUS business!

And here are our trees all “pretty in pink” set up in their room. Now for the big tree….. that will take a little more time. (It’s up, just not decorated.)

I am pleased with our festive craftiness. Kind of vintage looking, don’t you think?

We are already enjoying the Christmas season!

(And in case you are wondering…… each tree cost just about $5.00!)

Dudley’s bread is well appreciated…  2 slices of toast later… he is still asking for more……

And here is a quote from Josh, about our bakery treats….. “ I can’t pick my favorite, babe!” (I think he is on slice 8 or 9 by now…..these boys……Winking smile )

Julian, CA

Yesterday we made a day trip to a place my family knows well. I remember pretty much annually making a day trip up to Julian, Ca. We had relatives that lived there for some time and our trips growing up were also inspired by Mom’s memories of doing the same thing when she was a kid. So the tradition lives on….

We went with my parents and aunt. The weather was cold! (like in the high 40s at some points! That’s cold, right?) But the sky was clear and it was a completely glorious day!

First stop… Dudley's…. I remember so well, stopping at this bakery and loading up our arms with loaves of fresh baked bread to take home. And that is what we did…. my freezer is stashed with yummy baked goods that we will enjoy for a while. And we got a little something to nibble right away…. THE BEST FRESH CHOCOLATE DOUGHNUTS EVER!!! Notice the chocolate kissers below….

Evidently some turkeys made it through the Thanksgiving holiday unscathed. We had to stop the car for a group of about 6 wild turkeys crossing the street!

All bundled up and ready to explore the shops and delights of Julian.

Micah’s top teeth have been making their way in for a while now…. ( it seems like forever) but one of those teeth has come much farther than the other. So It seems like we are seeing this look from him a lot… that little tooth hanging over his lip.

We spent a little time walking down the town’s main street.  Stopping at all the old familiar spots…

Julian has a REAL old soda fountain, very fun…. stop in and order a purple cow, or a strawberry phosphate… or of course, a sarsaparilla.

And here are a few pictures of some very excited girls waiting for Grandpa who went to bring them something…..

Can you guess what it is?

( We all giggled a little when seeing Grandpa riding solo down the street in a horse drawn carriage…. ) Winking smile

Grandpa and Grandma treated us to a buggy ride in the country side. What a peaceful ride, looking at beautiful homes and seeing the beautiful colors of the season and enjoying the crisp cool air. Thanks Johnny for the tour! (That’s the horse’s nameWinking smile )

and a picture with Johnny…

And then we enjoyed a picnic. Our leftover turkey, cranberry sauce and Dudley’s bread made for some DELISH day- after- thanksgiving sandwiches!

There was some static in the air….  always makes for a great hair day!

Girls trying to stay warm by cuddling. Smile

Since Micah was a wee babe he has had a “way” of showing mommy his love….. ( and also communicating his hunger) but here he is giving mommy some kisses. Make-up is a lost cause with this little love bug around….. but I will willingly go make up free for these kisses and cuddles.

Picnicking in Julian…. such memories. Making new ones and fondly remembering the old.
