I think the girls are finally asleep after such a hyper evening.
Excitement was abundant at our annual Nelson Christmas and, of course, plenty of activity was in full supply as well.
We did something kind of new this year. Well, new for MY kids…
It is a Norwegian custom at Christmas to have rice pudding and within one lucky bowl there is a hidden white almond. Whoever finds the almond gets a prize -a marzipan pig and legend has it, one wish!
You can read more about the tradition here! (It’s under “Nordic Countries”)
Anyways… after dinner we got our bowls of rice pudding and everyone was intent on seeing who would find the almond.
Bekah was busy eating hers…
But the lucky winner was Miss Anna. Our little “Saint Lucia” girl.
There were giggles and laughs all around. She was pretty proud of herself. (BTW… her bowl was the last to be taken… it took a little coaxing for her to take a bite. Just goes to show you ,kids, that you should always try something before you say you don’t like it….. you might get a marzipan pig out of the deal! )
Then there were presents..
Here are all the kiddos ready to OPEN, OPEN, OPEN!
Micah’s first Christmas present EVER!
Micah- “Now I will help Anna open hers…” (p.s. Micah’s favorite gift of the evening…. tissue paper! He is easy to please.)
The girls showing off some MATCHY MATCHY outfits from their grandparents!
My favorite 2010 gift!
Micah Jay Nelson
The Nelson boys playing with Micah’s new Noah’s Ark.
Then there was our annual production of the Nativity story.
Rebekah was Mary.
Anna the Angel… with a slight dusting of powdered sugar.
And the baby Jesus. (He was a little unsure of what was happening.)
Can’t you just see him thinking….. “REALLY?!? what am I doing in this thing? MOM? Do you see this?”
“Ok…..seriously….. I am done.”
This year’s cast… Baby Jesus was thrilled…..
And then we, of course, had to celebrate the ONE and ONLY reason for the season!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!
We sang happy birthday to Jesus.
And to finish off the night… a shot in the matching pajamas.
(p.s. our nephew Christian – the oldest- was quite the sport! )
and the girls…
Another merry Christmas with the Nelson side!
